The Black Mamas Matter Alliance is launching the first ever Black Maternal Health Week (BMHW) to raise awareness of this national health crisis and bring black women, policymakers, clinicians, and other health-care stakeholders to the table for solutions. From April 11th to April 17th, through a series of digital and community events, BMHW will serve as a national platform for black-women led entities, increase attention to the root causes of poor maternal health outcomes, and offer tangible community-driven policy, program, and care solutions.
The Black Mamas Matter Alliance – made up of leaders from the maternal health, human rights, and reproductive justice fields – believes that every woman deserves and needs access to quality health care. However, ensuring safe pregnancies and births for all women in the U.S. will require sustained political will and long-term investments — especially in the health and well-being of black women and girls.
