      6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Join  URGE, United We Dream and the NAACP Youth and College Division on Inauguration night for an (un)happy hour, open to young people and anyone who believes in the power of young people. We won’t just drown our sorrows (though there will be an open bar!) but we will take action, build connections, and make signs to get fired up for the Women’s March on Washington the next day.
With the fight ahead, it’s more important than ever to build our community and keep one another focused on our goals. We are proud to partner with United We Dream and the NAACP Youth and College Division, as well as being a sponsor of the Women’s March on Washington.

It’s going to be a long four years, but let’s kick it off in the best way possible: with drinks, friendship, and progressive action.

    1. Women’s March on Washington @ Lincoln Memorial
      10:00 am – 5:00 pm

On January 21, 2017 we will unite in Washington, DC for the Women’s March on Washington. We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families — recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.

The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us–women, immigrants of all statuses, those with diverse religious faiths particularly Muslim, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native and Indigenous people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, the economically impoverished and survivors of sexual assault. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear.

In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office, and to the world that women’s rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.

We support the advocacy and resistance movements that reflect our multiple and intersecting identities. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us. This march is the first step towards unifying our communities, grounded in new relationships, to create change from the grassroots level up. We will not rest until women have parity and equity at all levels of leadership in society. We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all. HEAR OUR VOICE.

    3. RISE ABOVE CONFERENCE 2017: Inaugurating the new movement for equality, justice, freedom, and a government that works.
      8:00 pm – 3:00 pm

For millions of Americans, election night 2016 was a call to action. The result? An extraordinary groundswell of political energy. On social media, on university campuses, in company break rooms and at community events, people gathered, shared ideas, and worked together to figure out how best to protect our most important rights and freedoms. Lawyers for Good Government Inc. and RISE When We Fall, two organizations at the forefront of this emerging movement, are now joining forces to host “Rise Above,” a conference designed to coordinate and convert this unprecedented political energy into meaningful results.

The American people deserve a government that works; a government that protects and defends all of its people against injustice and oppression. We must ensure that the individuals running our government are committed to civil rights, equality, and justice. We must ensure that our government’s actions are aligned with the nation’s prosperity. And we must ensure that as a nation, we treat all people with dignity. The “Rise Above” conference will unite and empower activists, motivated volunteers, policy experts, lawyers, and political leaders who are in a position to further these objectives over time.

You can find more information here.

    1. LMHQ Women’s Breakfast Build Your Dream Network @ LMHQ
      8:30 am – 10:30 am

Join us at LMHQ for their first women’s breakfast of 2017 where author, connector, and networking expert Kelly Hoey will speak about her new book, Build Your Dream Network: Forging Powerful Relationships in a Hyper-Connected World (Penguin Random House). Moderated by author, executive coach, and motivational speaker Colette Ellis, Kelly will pull back the curtain on how to “stop committing random acts of networking” and create a modern roadmap for cultivating meaningful connections.

We often hear advice about “getting yourself out there” to help your career: schmoozing at cocktail parties, attending networking events, or sending a flurry of cold LinkedIn invites to folks in your industry. Kelly asserts that forming genuine relationships is the key to harnessing the power of your network that can help you accomplish any goal, from landing your dream job or a coveted account, to successfully attracting investors or crowdfunding a new business venture.

The strength of Kelly’s connections and networks explain how this former attorney pivoted to become a much sought after speaker, seasoned investor and published author. Her carefully crafted journey has led to appearances as a panelist on CNBC’s Power Pitch as well as the honor of being named one of the “25 Smartest Women On Twitter” by Fast Company and being listed as “1 of 5 Women Changing the World of VC/Entrepreneurship” by Forbes.

Doors open at 8:30am for bagels and coffee and an opportunity for networking, and our panel kicks off at 9:00am sharp. We can’t wait to see you!

This event is sponsored by Verizon.

    1. Onward Together: A DC Volunteer and Advocacy Fair
      12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Onward Together has a simple goal: They want to connect organizations in the DC area with the people who are eager to work toward progressive social justice for the next four years (and beyond). After Election Day, there was an overwhelming wave of support for the people, causes, and organizations that could be threatened under the new administration. Some are fortunate to live in a city that is filled with countless opportunities to volunteer for worthy causes, as well as driven, politically-engaged, caring people who are invested in our future. The hope is this event will be an easy way to recruit new volunteers and raise awareness and involvement.

Please join on February 18, 2017 at the Friends Meeting House in Dupont Circle from 12-4 pm. Each organization will have a table set up so you can meet with current volunteers and find out how you can get involved in their causes.

      Participating organizations so far include:
      DC Abortion Fund
      Define American
      Emerge America
      J Street LEAD
      MomsRising
      Muslim Public Affairs Council
      National Iranian American Council
