What’s it like being a small fry with big ideas? How do you land big brand accounts as a small creative company?

Join LMHQ for our monthly women’s breakfast as we talk with Mallory Blair and Bianca CaampuedCo-Founders of Small Girls PR, and Jenna Weiss-Berman, Co-Founder of Pineapple Street Media, in conversation with LMHQ’s Director of Programs + Events, Tracy Candido, about taking a personal approach to handling big client accounts. Between both companies, they count brands like GE, Google, Verizon, The New York Times, Hillary Clinton, Ann Taylor, Clinique, Viacom, L’Oreal, Lena Dunham, and Wieden+Kennedy among their clients.

We’ll be learning how both companies craft thoughtful relationships to build big business contracts, what they offer to huge clients that the big guys can’t, and how they act as strategic partners for companies needing tailored, creative solutions.

      6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

In March, Thursday Network examined power and oppression, what it looks like and how it works as a system in our society.

This April, join the TN Executive Board as we serve as panelists, alongside the audience. We’ll be lead by professional moderator, Angelina Darrisaw, through a fruitful discussion unpacking our power and privilege… together.

During this “town hall” style conversation, they will identify these elements and discuss how to begin to rewrite the narrative of oppression and exclusion in our lives.  They’ll discuss finding our voices in this climate, being better advocates for each other, for change, and being present and engaged in the movement, as we speak up against systematic oppression.

Design is connected to everything we see, use and experience with lasting impact on individuals and businesses. Taking a closer look at research and development (R&D), we are constantly searching for alternatives that bring efficient solutions to make people’s lives easier. Daniel Soltis will uncover the secrets behind building an R&D approach into your work—whether you’re based in an agency or a business—or you’re a student. That ranges from everything he’s learned from collaborating with multi-disciplinary experts—to engaging users and building useful prototypes. Soltis will focus on cultivating this unique spot in a designer’s mind—and the future growth of business. Attendees will walk away with concrete ideas on how to make things happen.

Daniel Soltis is a user experience director at Moving Brands, where he has led brand strategy work with clients including Nuance, Progress and Lexmark, and UX for digital design projects with clients including DeviantArt, Swisscom, Cooley, Phaidon and Madefire. Daniel is also a core part of Moving Brands’ innovation team, leading projects that push the boundaries of emerging technologies such as gestural interfaces and 3D printing.

The government is declaring war on the press and the press is fighting to uphold the journalistic freedom necessary for democracy to function. Genuine news media outlets are discredited at every turn while fake news — the real fake news — gains influence. It’s no wonder that public trust in the media is at an unprecedented low.

But it’s not just a battle between Trump and The New York Times. Everyone’s freedom is at stake if the press is silenced and power goes unchecked. Public trust in a free press has actually never been more vital. How do we begin to bridge the divide between the public and the press and together, keep our government accountable?

    1. Women of Color in Tech Reception: Our Presence, Our Power @ HBO
      5:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Women comprise 48% of the US workforce, but only 24% of workers in STEM fields. That number is even lower—less than 1 in 10–for women of color. Given those statistics, Digital Diversity Network (DDN) has launched a platform for influential women of color to impart their wisdom and passion; share their stories; and inspire others to defy the odds and thrive in the Creative Economy.

DDN’s Women of Color in Tech initiative celebrates the contributions of women from diverse backgrounds, passions and pursuits in the digital and technology sectors. This carefully curated assembly of more than100 leaders; founders; influencers; inventors; creators; advocates; and funders represent what’s NOW and what’s NEXT in the tech universe. Today, these dynamic and distinctive women are developing the patents, products, tools and apps that will power tomorrow.Through this collective experience, we aim to educate, empower and ignite positive action to advance the future for women of color in tech.

Digital Diversity Network is a 501 (c)(6) non-profit trade association.  Founded in 2012, our mission is to provide community, education and resources to advance diversity and inclusion in the leadership and ownership of the digital and technology sectors.

      12:00 pm – 5:30 pm
The Blk Grrrl Book Fair combines the worlds of feminism, film, visual arts and literary arts.
It is being planned with a collaboration of feminist and literary art groups.

It is inclusive of all genders, races, sexual orientations and generations. This event includes women curators who are in their 70s and women curators who are in their 20s. It is actively anti-racist, anti-colorist, anti-heterosexist, anti-misogynist, anti-ageist and anti-ableist .

The focus is feminism. The freedom of women, the mostoppressed class, even within socially and economically oppressed groups, is the key to the
      liberation of all people.

Women are underrepresented in the arts and publishing.

This event will work to correct that.

The Blk Grrrl Book Fair is a demonstration of what inclusivity looks like.

Tickets include all day entry to the exhibits, panels and afterhours talk. Tickets purchased before February 1 are $20.00 after February 1 they are $25.00. Those of you who have privilege have the opportunity to buy less advantaged folks a ticket for $45.00.

      6:45 pm – 9:45 pm

Turn on your TV. Check out the multiplexes.  There’s a new protagonist in town… and she’s a woman.

Time to write your female-driven screenplay or TV series!

In this Master Class, you’ll learn:

      • Replace “soft” scenes with active moments.
      • Create bold character choices without falling into tired stereotypes.
      • Turn “girly” chatter into real-woman dialogue.
      • Write a female-driven script that sells, without selling out.

You’ll be writing and brainstorming in real time, so bring your laptops and your great ideas!

Instructor: PILAR ALESSANDRA started her career as Senior Story Analyst at DreamWorks SKG. In 2001, she opened the Los Angeles-based On the Page Writers’ Studio, dedicated to teaching and consulting with screenwriters and TV writers at all levels. She’s the author of the top-selling scriptwriting book, “The Coffee Break Screenwriter,” and host of the popular “On the Page Podcast.” An in-demand speaker, she’s taught seminars at Disney Animation, ABC, CBS and MTV, and traveled the world teaching in the UK, China, Poland, Vietnam, Columbia, Portugal and South Africa. Pilar’s greatest accomplishment is the success of her students, many of whom have won top competitions like the Nicholl Fellowship, are working on TV shows such as “The 100,” “The Walking Dead” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” and have sold scripts and pitches to studios including DreamWorks, Warner Bros. and Disney.
