    1. A Non-Coders Guide to the Web: HTML/CSS, Frontend, Backend, and More @ qLabs
      6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

If you’re not a technical person web technology can be a sea of acronyms and jargon that can be tough to navigate. Maybe you’re interested in transitioning your career. Maybe you already work with technical people and you want to make sure you know what you’re talking about. Don’t know your CSS from a CMS? This workshop is for you.

Join us for a Q&A and presentation. Refreshments provided.

      About Nate Cooper

Nate Cooper is a writer and consultant in New York City. After working in marketing at Apple Inc, Nate has established himself within the New York tech and entrepreneurial community writing on the subject of business strategy.

Hosted at qLabs in New York City, Reboot is a community centered around education. We bring the best of hackathons, coding bootcamps, and coworking to new learning experiences which open you to challenge, incite growth, and level up your skills while asserting space for play. We bring lifelong learning to Generation Flux. As defined by Fast Company, “Generation Flux is a ‘mind-set that embraces instability, that tolerates — and even enjoys — recalibrating careers, business models and assumptions.’”

      Hosted by Reboot by qLabs.

      6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

In the past five years, the Diverse City Fund has granted more than $500,000 to incredible grassroots, people of color-led, social justice projects in DC. As they do every year, they would like to invite you to join us in celebrating our fantastic grantees from the Spring and Fall grant rounds in 2016. In a difficult year, their work and commitment to social justice in this community lifted up our movements, and now  DCF wants to lift them up with you.

At the same time, this is a moment of mobilization as our communities face unprecedented threats in 2017 and beyond. They would also like to take this time to come together as the Diverse City Fund community and discuss a vision for action. They know that as a funder and fundraiser, they will need to do even more to protect the rights of DC residents and social justice organizing efforts in coming years.

They are calling Diverse City Fund grantees, donors, supporters, and friends to join us at a community forum to discuss what action DC Fund can take to best support local social justice work in our current climate. They are committed to stepping up and doing more, and need your ideas, courage, and wisdom to chart a course forward.

Please join them to celebrate and build a vision for how DC Fund can support DC’s social justice work in 2017 and beyond:

      Please RSVP via EventBrite.

Your support is needed now more than ever to help us amplify leaders of color whose social justice work is transforming DC into a more just, vibrant place to live. They look forward to seeing you on the 25th!

    4. How to Successfully Influence Others Gathering Event @ Playwright Tavern 49th Street
      6:30 pm – 8:15 pm

The ability to influence is one of the essential skills for leaders at all levels. It’s more art than science, and it can be tough to get your arms around.  But the bottom line is that influence matters. And as we continue to morph into an interconnected, interdependent, increasingly global workplace, it will matter more.

The facilitator, Rachel Rider will discuss many of the basic principles of influencing others from both the personal and professional perspective.  This workshop will focus on understanding when you uncover a roadblock to work together, engage, and meet the other person halfway.

Influencing others can have different definitions for each individual. Some examples may be individuals that would like to create buy in from colleagues regarding a specific project, an individual contributor that wants the approval from a boss about a specific project, or a manager that would like his/her team to deliver a project that may not be that exciting.

      You will learn:

      1. How to understand your specific position
      2. How to understand the content which the other person is looking for that you’re not providing
      3. Simple and easy communication tools and techniques to aid you in handling difficult individuals
      4. How to create a mutually agreed outcome where everyone wins

      6:30-7:00 Facilated Networking
      7:00-8:00 Workshop
      8:00-8:30 Continued Networking

This workshop will give you a step by step guide of how to navigate some of your personal difficult conversations. You will expect to walk away with specific ways of of successfully handing challenging situations.

Rachel Rider is an Executive, Organizational and Career Coach. She is the Founder of MettaWorks where she acts as a coach and leadership consultant. Rachel has worked in the corporate world for over 10 years, where she was most recently at Bloomberg. In addition to leading MettaWorks, Rachel currently works at an DigitalOcean where she acts as an Executive Coach and runs leadership development globally. 1. LMHQ Women’s Breakfast Build Your Dream Network @ LMHQ
      8:30 am – 10:30 am

Join us at LMHQ for their first women’s breakfast of 2017 where author, connector, and networking expert Kelly Hoey will speak about her new book, Build Your Dream Network: Forging Powerful Relationships in a Hyper-Connected World (Penguin Random House). Moderated by author, executive coach, and motivational speaker Colette Ellis, Kelly will pull back the curtain on how to “stop committing random acts of networking” and create a modern roadmap for cultivating meaningful connections.

We often hear advice about “getting yourself out there” to help your career: schmoozing at cocktail parties, attending networking events, or sending a flurry of cold LinkedIn invites to folks in your industry. Kelly asserts that forming genuine relationships is the key to harnessing the power of your network that can help you accomplish any goal, from landing your dream job or a coveted account, to successfully attracting investors or crowdfunding a new business venture.

The strength of Kelly’s connections and networks explain how this former attorney pivoted to become a much sought after speaker, seasoned investor and published author. Her carefully crafted journey has led to appearances as a panelist on CNBC’s Power Pitch as well as the honor of being named one of the “25 Smartest Women On Twitter” by Fast Company and being listed as “1 of 5 Women Changing the World of VC/Entrepreneurship” by Forbes.

Doors open at 8:30am for bagels and coffee and an opportunity for networking, and our panel kicks off at 9:00am sharp. We can’t wait to see you!

This event is sponsored by Verizon.

Looking forward to connecting and meet you there!
