These Two Actresses Are Making History In The Emmy World

The 2017 Primetime Emmy Award nominations are out, and two nominees are already making history.

Viola Davis is nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her hit show, How to Get Away with Murder. Davis plays Annalise Keating, a law professor who becomes entangled in a murder plot. This is her third year being nominated for an Emmy award. She won in 2015 for best actress in drama, and nominated 2016 for lead actress in drama.  She is the first African American woman to be nominated for three Academy Awards, and later winning one. To add to her regime in the acting world, she claimed to the Triple Crown of Acting award.

Tracee Ellis Ross is slated for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her show, black-ish. The show focuses on an upper-middle class black family where Ross plays Dr. Rainbow Johnson. Last year, she was nominated for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming the first African American woman in 30 years to be placed in this category. In 2017, Ross won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy. Besides her noteworthy acting accomplishments, Ross worked in different areas of the media industry. She graduated from Brown University, where she went on to work in the fashion industry and became contributing editor for the magazine Mirabella. Ross continues to stun people with her ability to conquer any field she goes into.

Both ladies continue to break the traditional mold for award nominations. The actresses have set an example for many women out as they continue to soar. Congratulations ladies, we can’t wait to see everything else you do!
