If anyone understands the importance of storytelling, it is Raquel Cepeda. On November 19th at 7pm, she joins the Her Agenda Insiders for #PowerHour to discuss our topic, "Try Out Your Voice: Storytelling To Empower Others." Are you a young professional in communications? Working in issues around racial and gender justice? Or trying to find a voice that is compelling and drives action? This #PowerHour is for you.

Born in Harlem and of Dominican descent, Raquel has been harnessing the power of storytelling through podcasts, documentaries, and award-winning journalism. She is the author of Bird of Paradise: How I Became Latina, her coming-of-age story and journey to discover her roots. In depth, the book explores negotiating her hyphenated identity as a Latina-American living in America today.

Her latest documentary, Some Girls, focuses on a group of troubled Latina teens from a Bronx-based suicide prevention program transformed by the use of ancestral DNA testing, followed by a trip to the Dominican Republic. On that journey, the white supremacist narratives about American history are challenged, leaving them to reconstruct their own respective identities. Her current projects include her next documentaries La Madrina: The Savage Life of Lorine Padilla, another about the social and cultural history of reggaetón, and writing East of Broadway.

As well as her accomplished career in filmmaking and journalism, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio tapped her as a strategic advisor for the Latin Media and Entertainment Commission where she positions her beloved city as a global capital for the Latinx media and entertainment industry. She lives in New York City with her husband, daughter and son.

Join the Her Agenda Insiders on November 19th at 7PM on our Slack channel for insight on dynamic storytelling, and an intimate conversation with Raquel!
