Join Poynter for a day of empowerment for women journalists at the Hearst Tower in New York City.
Our nation is undergoing profound changes, sparked by controversies and crisis, especially on issues of gender in the workplace. Countless stories have emerged on everything from the abuse of power and the mistreatment of women to the lack of females in leadership positions in American newsrooms. The importance of prepared women in leadership roles in American newsrooms can be seen today at your local movie theater in the Academy Award nominated film The Post, as Meryl Streep portrays Katherine Graham, then publisher of The Washington Post. The film takes on the challenges Graham faced as a woman leading The Post through a critical time in its, and America’s, history. Inspired by the film, Participant Media launched the #LeadingWomen campaign to elevate Graham’s role as a trailblazing female leader and inspire a new generation of strong women in the workplace.
These stories have exposed significant issues facing the industry. Poynter has responded to these challenges by designing curricula to directly support a new generation of journalism leaders. Now in its fourth year, our Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media received over 600 applications for 28 positions.
In response to the combination of the clear demand for this training and the need in the industry, Poynter is introducing a Women Leadership Symposium. This intensive workshop will highlight the best of the women's leadership academies, including:
- The Compensation Conversation
- How to Succeed in Male-Dominated Environments
- The Skills Women Must Master in a World of Double Standards
- Finding Work-Life Chemistry
- Building Your Three-Minute Personal Leadership Plan
The day will include an opening keynote presentation with plenty of networking time over lunch and during a post-training reception - all of which are included in the ticket price.
You'll leave feeling refreshed and empowered, with an action plan and a cohort of colleagues to encourage you to achieve even greater success.
Additional faculty will be announced soon! Registration is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserve your seat today!
This training is provided in partnership with Participant Media.
Founded in 2004 by Jeff Skoll, Participant Media’s content combines the power of a good story well told with opportunities for real world impact and awareness around the most pressing global issues of our time. Participant’s more than 80 films including Spotlight, Contagion, Lincoln, The Help, He Named Me Malala, The Look of Silence, CITIZENFOUR, Food, Inc. and An Inconvenient Truth, have collectively earned 56 Academy Award® nominations and 11 wins, including Best Picture for Spotlight.
