AI Job Market Surges In 2025: What Job Seekers Need To Know Now

The World Economic Forum’s 2023 ‘Future of Jobs Report’ predicted that AI would be one of the fastest growing sectors in the world. Fast forward to 2025 and there’s an increased demand for artificial intelligence roles such as machine learning engineer, data engineer and more, especially as AI becomes more important across diverse sectors such as healthcare.
If you’re interested in being a part of this constantly evolving field, here are a few tips to help you stand out in interviews for AI roles.
Understand These Coding Languages
According to Fortune Magazine, Python is the most relevant programming language when it comes to AI because of its simplicity and readability. Other languages professional developers also use Java, SQL and C++ and R and employers also rank them among the most in demand hard skills for engineering on LinkedIn.
However, Fortune also notes that since AI changes so rapidly, it’s also important to have strong mathematical skills as well as soft skills including problem solving, adaptability, ethical judgment and creativity.

Read AI reports
It’s important to keep up with current research in machine learning and that often involves lengthy and dense reports, according to Jean Lee, a former software engineering manager at Facebook. The way to impress in an interview? Try reading these papers on your own.
“The challenge is that you’ll be competing with people who read these papers as a hobby,” Jean said.
Jean also said reading these papers is also a good way to determine if you even want to be a machine learning engineer or choose another career path within the AI space.
Be Visible To Potential Employers
When discussing career growth in tech in their podcast Hot Cup of Code, software engineers Catarina Goncalves and Zyrbea Whitfield advised that those applying to technical roles should take the time to consistently write code or read up on research and should also find a way to make themselves visible to potential employers.
“We also have someone in our network who had this incredible tech blog, they’ve been writing pretty regularly, and they just started their first tech job as a software engineer,” Zyrbea said.
No matter how you showcase your skills, Catarina and Zyrbea stress how important it is to put in that work.
“Those are not negotiable in this job market.” Catarina said.

Be Prepared to Talk About Your Previous Work
Roboticist Kajal Gada advises applicants to have at least a couple projects they can talk about at length.
“When you’re talking about the project, you can start with ‘this is what the project does,’” Kajal said. “You can include images and videos which makes it easier for you to explain things and then you can talk about what it is you have done.”
In addition to helping employers understand your experience and expertise, Kajal also said sharing your projects give you the chance to showcase how you problem solve and work through challenges.
What To Do If You Don’t Have a Technical Background
While showcasing your experience will impress interviewers, don’t feel discouraged if you don’t have a technical degree or experience. You can learn the hard technical skills you need for these roles throughAI bootcamps, which can be completed remotely and are hosted by top universities such as Columbia and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
According to Jean, while breaking into the AI market is challenging, working in the space is very rewarding.
“You’re going to be part of a conversation that shapes the future of the entire world,” she said.
