School doesn’t prepare you for the reality of what it takes to excel in your career. Some learn from experience, others are lucky enough to learn from mentors, and there are those who do not learn at all.
In the school environment in particular, research shows girls tend to excel. But the things that get you ahead in school like adhering to authority and automatic promotion to the next grade when you perform well instead of advocating for yourself to get ahead don’t work in the workplace. In school, by getting good grades you excel automatically and you ultimately graduate. A career path is less scripted and research shows, women are impacted by this the most.
