Get Rich Slow: How Anne Curry Built Her Real Estate Business with Patience and Purpose

Anne Curry is a real estate investor and entrepreneur who exemplifies what’s possible when passion meets perseverance. With over 30 years of experience buying, flipping, developing, and managing properties, Anne has built a multimillion-dollar real estate portfolio with over 150 units and 12 apartment buildings.
Anne began her journey earning just $5 an hour as a preschool teacher, but was fueled by a dream to create financial security for her family. Today, Anne is ranked among the top 1% of realestate brokers in Pierce County, WA.
Her Agenda spoke with Anne to hear about her journey into real estate, how mentorship helped her, and what her motto, “Get Rich Slow,” means.
Her Agenda: Could you tell me more about yourself and Anne Curry Homes? How did you get started in real estate?
Anne Curry: As a young mom, I made $5 an hour as a preschool teacher and a house cleaner while my husband worked at a non-profit. When my husband and I got married, we knew that with him working in nonprofit, there was a high chance that we would never earn enough money to own a home. As my kids grew older, I wondered how I would afford to put them through college. Around the same time, I met my first mentor, who owned 50 single-family rental properties. I now own $20 million in real estate and lead a team at Anne Curry Homes.

HA: Can you go more into detail about what you learned from your mentor?
Anne Curry: I didn’t just learn how to buy my first house from my mentor. I learned how to fix the houses and add value. He told me, “If you put this much into it — paint, fix the bathroom, replace the floors, new carpet — it’ll be worth around $130,000.” Then he told me, “Go back to the bank, refinance that hard money loan you used for the purchase and rehab, get your cash out, and rent it.”
He was teaching me the BRRRR method before it even had a name. He was giving me the playbook to build a rental portfolio. We now offer new construction, townhomes, and apartments, as well as both single-family and multifamily rental portfolios. I don’t want to discourage anyone who is just starting when they hear about everything we’ve done. This is 30 years of dedicating myself to this.
Her Agenda: Your motto is “Get Rich Slow.” Could you explain how you came up with it and why it matters in the real estate industry? How do you incorporate it into your business?
Anne Curry: There’s a perception as an entrepreneur that you can make a lot of money fast while also having balance. While there are ways to make money quickly, to become truly wealthy takes time, a lot of late nights and early mornings, and a lot of saying ‘no.’ In a world where everything is expected to happen instantaneously, my wealth came through practicing patience while my assets grew over time. With every client that my team and I help, every free wealth event we hold at Anne Curry Homes, and every mentorship call that I have, ‘Get Rich Slow’ is always the underlying theme.

HA: So, what do you think is your superpower in real estate?
Anne Curry: My true superpower, if I had to pick one, has been my determination not to quit. This is not always sexy, there’s a lot of hard work involved. There’s grit, there’s hard work, and times where you say to yourself, “What am I doing?” It’s finance, it’s construction, it’s managing several balls in the air at once. It’s determination when you’ve been looking for a property for six months and haven’t found one.
