The year is near the end, but it hasn’t yet. There’s still time to boost your career forward before we close the year 2025 for good. If you still want to ensure that you’re elevating and securing your spot for 2026, here are some steps you can take to get that last boost for the end of the year.

1. Utilize Networking Contacts

Whether you’ve attended an in-person or virtual networking event, it’s always good to follow up with the people you networked with. Either call or e-mail the new contacts, and inquire about how you both can collaborate with each other. This boost that you’re seeking can come from anyone. By putting yourself out there, along with your availability, you can create more opportunities.

According to The Muse, networking is a two-way street. You can’t just ask for help; you should offer it too. Simple gestures like sharing someone’s work on LinkedIn or providing a resource they need can go a long way.

2. Call Your Mentor

If you have a mentor or someone that you trust who can see your vision, give them a call. You may be able to receive something they said and get inspiration from it. They may also have connections with someone who can help you get a better job, a reference, or experience. Mentors assist in guiding you to elevate and bring the best out of you, embrace your mentor and get as much knowledge from him/her as much as possible.

3. Update Your Resume And LinkedIn Profile

Keeping an updated resume is essential. Make sure your resume is 2026-ready. This means your jobs are in proper order, your phone number and email are current, and your current job says present. Your LinkedIn profile should reflect the same, as it is accessible to many potential employers.

4. Learn A New Skill

The holidays/end of the year present offer time to prepare. A knowledgeable boost is a strategic move. Try taking an online class (which can sometimes be free through your local library) to learn a new skill. This will be something new to put on your resume, and a new skill could take your salary/pay up a notch.

As the year ends, don’t let yourself fall into the background. To remain a competitive and committed professional, level up your skillset. Being proactive is the best career boost.
