Dreena Whitfield is the founder and CEO of WhitPR, a boutique strategic communications firm. She is also the mother of one, a frequent flyer, and an avid goal setter. On May 15, the Her Agenda Insider’s hosted Dreena for our #PowerHour chat to discuss how she balances her career, family, and faith. Her career has led her to spearhead the communications and marketing efforts for leaders in the nonprofit, corporate and political sectors, as well as small businesses across the country.

Dreena was transparent about her journey from press secretary for Cory Booker, former mayor of Newark, NJ, to small business owner. It required a focused vision to build her contacts, develop solid relationships, and work with someone that was on her vision board. One important key was understanding her ideal client profile. Dreena was clear that she could only work with people, companies, and brands that she “vibed with”. The peace that comes from that is priceless. Our Insiders were able to ask about how to pitch and determine the timeliness of their message.

Here’s one statement that resonated with many Her Agenda Insiders:

I think having a clear vision is key, writing your goals and plans down, being confident and fearless are essential. I still to this day write everything down. I love a good notebook, I write my to do lists at night so I know what has to be done the next day for both my personal and professional life.

When asked if women could have it all:

Yes, I definitely believe so. Listen, to me that means I’m happy and doing some aspect of self care, my family is happy and feeling loved, and my clients are happy. Don’t get me wrong it’s not like this all the time. Someone is bound to feel slighted at times, or I’m bound to forget my son’s extra sheet at school, or a I’ll miss a client deadline because its life. I’m human and not perfect. But I think having it all really depends on what having it all means to the individual.

Dreena’s final words to the community:

Energy is key. I work off of energy in every relationship, personal and professional and it has helped me create amazing relationships with clients, vendors and employees.
