While the job search might be tough, some professionals are looking to the zodiac to turn things around. It’s telling that recent research has found that 63 percent of young Americans believe astrology benefits their careers, and 15 percent even claimed it helped them get their “dream job.”  To go even further, 80 percent of millennials and Gen Zers surveyed said they “believe in cosmic guidance.” (Now, if you’re a faith-centered professional, this might be quite far-fetched, but walk with me here.)

Many people are fascinated with the zodiac, either taking horoscope insights to heart and shifting their actions in all aspects of their life accordingly, or taking it with a grain of salt just for kicks and giggles. But how specifically does your zodiac sign relate to your approach to your job search?

Whether you follow zodiac insights to the letter or not, there are interesting takes on the best approach to your job search based on your zodiac sign. And while astrology won’t replace networking or skill-building, it can, for some, offer a unique lens for self-reflection. Each zodiac sign has qualities that, when understood, can support career decisions and build confidence during a job search.

Let’s get more into how your zodiac could play a role in your career advancement:

Your Unique Zodiac Traits Can Inform How You Show Up For Interviews.

If you know the typical characteristics of your zodiac sign, you can build stronger self-awareness and simply show up authentically. Let’s take what they say about Capricorns: That we’re pragmatic, strict, and stubborn — all great traits for leaders in management and CEO positions. Well, when you lean heavily into those traits, you show up confidently, prep well, and you are more than ready for any questions that might be thrown at you.

Also, the way in which you market yourself can be positively impacted. Taureans are known to have “a deep connection to the senses” and an “innate ability to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.” They have a “steadfast presence, soothing voice, and genuine charm that always draw people.” In this way, you can stand out by presenting your resume in a creative way, creating a video presentation to talk about your skills, or endear your potential manager via your charisma.

Knowing The Unique Traits That Make You Compatible For A Role Or Industry Can Be A Major Power Play.

If you’re sure of the type of work, role, or vocation that aligns with your talents, interests and skills, it’s a win-win. While job-description catfishing is a thing, you can still discern whether an job opening is worth applying for based on what the zodiac purports are great matches for your sign’s typical traits.

You’ll also avoid the waste of time and utter embarrassment of unnecessary rejection by not applying for jobs that you know are more-than-likely not going to be a good fit. Interviewing for an incompatible job is like sitting through a hours-long blind date — and ultimately being rejected by said person — knowing good and well the person wasn’t your cup of tea in the first place.

For example, if you’re a true Gemini (according to the zodiac, of course), you might not thrive at a job where the description clearly states you’ll be doing a lot of grunt work, working with repetitive systems, or foregoing your creative skills. And while I don’t strictly follow the zodiac — my spiritual beliefs just don’t align — I can fathom that that the Capricorn in me does not thrive in roles or work environments where there’s a constant push to pivot or switch up processes, as I crave order and do well setting a consistent and reliable standard for efficiency at work.

Pinpointing Blind Spots In The Way You Approach Challenges Does Wonders.

It’s always good to know your weaknesses when it comes to time management, communication style, and perceptions, especially when it comes to anything impacting your career advancement. Aries are often described as impulsive, while Cancers can be moody and very emotional. Sagitareans have been said to be “commitment-adverse.” While these aren’t hard-and-fast rules exclusive to each zodiac (and could generally be related to something else like lifestyle, mental wellness, or seasons), the point is that when you are self-aware on the shortcomings you either need to accept or improve about yourself, you can make ideal choices on when you choose to apply for jobs, how often, and the resources you need to thrive in the process without totally crashing out.

As a so-called Capricorn, I often struggle with perfectionism, so whenever I’ve been on the hunt for a job, rejections would really drive me into a mild depression and an extreme spiral of self-criticism. I’ve learned to schedule off days to affirm my abilities, focus on self care, and maintain a balanced and healthy self-perception.

Whether you believe in horoscopes and zodiac signs or not, there are intriguing things to consider during your job search process — even if this served as just a refreshing tongue-in-cheek break from a week of rejections, ghosting, or fourth-round interview defeats.
