4 Low-Key Things To Do New Year’s Day

If you’re doing something for New Year’s Eve, you’ll likely want to have a chill, first day of the year. Chances are, if you’re a millennial, you’ll be in bed before midnight. However, we all celebrate in our own special way.
As we grow, certain things matter a little less, and dressing up in a short dress to walk in the cold just doesn’t entice me. However, I will be doing some of the suggestions below, especially the gratitude journal, and the first entry will be dedicated to my lovely late grandmother, whose birthday happens to be New Year’s Day!

1. Start A Gratitude Journal
Journaling is a therapeutic way to express yourself and get feelings and emotions out. When you incorporate gratitude, you are appreciative of more and see the world differently.
According to Happy Feed, Gratitude journaling is the habit of recording and reflecting on things (typically three) that you are grateful for on a regular basis. In essence, you are rewiring your brain to focus more on the positive aspects of your life and build up resilience against negative situations.

2. Have Breakfast In Bed
If you’re off from work, this is a great excuse to stay in bed and feel as if you’re in a five-star hotel. There’s no room service, but you could get breakfast food delivered and answer the door with your robe on, same difference, right? Or you could choose to cook andeat in bed. Whatever you choose is fine, but make it delicious and hassle-free. It’s the first day of the year, bask in the freshness!
3. Enjoy A Walk At The Park (If Weather Permits)
Catching a few rays while walking in the park, while sneaking in a little exercise, is a great idea on the first day of the year, that is, if the weather permits. The endorphins you’ll receive will be worth the walk, and you’ll feel accomplished having started the year off on the right foot. Grab a friend or a neighbor and put on your walking shoes, working up a sweat, and conversing may make the walk go by quicker.
4. Clean Your Home
There’s no time like the present to clean your home. With this allotted time off, you can start the year off on a clean slate, and don’t forget to dust. You can also get rid of clothes, shoes, and miscellaneous things you don’t and won’t use. Donate your things to thrift stores or churches, and make room for the new things that the year will bring. Now what are you waiting for? That floor won’t mop itself!
