4 Millennial Moms Share Their Favorite Places To Get A Mommy Break
It has often been stated that being a parent, particularly a mom is the hardest job in the world. Taking a mommy break can be essential to not only your mental health but, also how you pour into your kids. According to research, parents face major challenges made worse by stress, financial struggles, and balancing home and work life.
Below, four moms who share their favorite places to get a mommy break:
A Spa Day Keeps The Stress Away
Being a mom comes with a lot of responsibility and dedication. Stress is inevitable sometimes, yet making time for self-care can bring about peace and a sense of relief to be alone and focus solely on yourself.
Tamaira Wade, 28, is a liaison for skilled nursing, a mom of one, and she is pregnant with her second child. Once a month, she gets a Groupon to book a massage or facial and plans a day to pamper herself, and afterward, she goes to TJ Maxx to shop. Her advice to other moms is, “Find the time. A lot of people aren’t privileged enough to have a village, but I will say I feel like as the kids get older it does get a little bit better. They become a little bit more independent, so I definitely just say hang in there. It does get better.”
Beach. Peace. Release.
Tynescha Sibley, 41, is an accountant and mom of three. “I love to go to the beach,” she said. “I love water. I love to see the sunrise and sunset. I love earthly things. I find time for myself when they’re out of school and plan trips then so my mom can watch them.”
She also shared that a support system is very important. She wants to start a non-profit support group for mothers, especially single moms who need to run errands or just need a break.
Sauna For Wellness
Brittany Edwards, 33, is a pediatric and maternal occupational therapist, Pilates instructor and a mom of two. “My favorite place to go as of late to have a self-care day is to the sauna on Wednesdays, and sometimes I go on solo brunch dates where I get a good meal and a cocktail and come on home and take a nap,” she said. “I love the phrase, ‘It takes a village to raise a child,’ but women need a village as well, especially mothers.”
Sunroofs And Sunsets
Toni Jackson, 37, is a director of community response services. The mom of three said, “My favorite place to get away is sitting in my car, right in the driveway. It’s just peaceful, I don’t know if it’s because it’s an enclosed area or what but I listen to music that’s calming me down and regulating my nervous system for the day.”
She acknowledged that her love of the car sessions started as a child enjoying time with her favorite cousin, as they’d sit and listen to music together. “It’s really easy to make your entire life all about your child and in a way that’s a beautiful thing but don’t forget to prioritize yourself as well.”
