With Valentine’s Day centered on celebrating our relationships with our significant others, February 13 is dedicated to honoring sisterhood and friendship through Galentine’s Day. Whether you’re celebrating old or new friendships, here are seven classic and new movies highlighting the power of sisterhood.

“Girls Trip” has a star-studded main cast withQueen Latifah, Regina Hall, Jada Pickett-Smith, and Tiffany Haddish starring as lifelong college friends, the “Flossy Posse,” reunite at the Essence Festival. “Girls Trip” highlights the power of having a circle of women who lift each other and know how to find humor through life’s ups and downs. Streaming on Netflix, Someone Great has a twist ending that you won’t likely see in a movie that features a breakup between the main character and their significant other when Gina Rogriguez’s character, Jenny, chooses herself and not her relationship. As Jenny starts to grieve her relationship, she leans on her friends, Dewanda Wise and Brittany Snow, as they have one last “girl’s night out” that reminds each other why they are already “Someone Great.”

Mystic Pizza follows three teenagers as they work as waitresses during the last summer after they graduate high school. In Mystic, Connecticut, Julia Roberts,Annabeth Gish, and Lili Taylor’s friendship helps them navigate love, heartbreak, and the tough decisions that come with transitioning into adulthood. Waiting to Exhale explores the sisterhood between Anglea Bassett, Savrace Loretta Devine, and Lela Rochon as they navigate a marriage ending, a new love blossoming, family issues, and tough decisions with their significant others. SZA and Keke Palmer dazzle the screen as two friends and roommates racing against time to obtain rent money to avoid eviction. “One of Them Days” shows the dynamics between two women as they navigate life’s struggles and experiences and grow their friendship together. Only in theaters.

Joy Ride highlights the bonds between two childhood friends as they embark on an adventurous and chaotic trip to Asia. Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, and Stephanie Hsu dominate the screen as they navigate literal and metaphorical journeys together. She spearheaded their first DEI strategy, which included anti-racism and bias training, scaling their impact committee and community relations strategy. While an account executive at BerlinRosen, SaDiedrah worked with clients such as GLAAD, Color of Change, Coqual, New Commonwealth Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund, NYC Kids RISE, and Bainum Family Foundation, aiding them in thought leadership strategy and media relations. In 2022, SaDiedrah founded Harris DEI+B Consultancy, where she has worked with organizations to implement DEI initiatives, leading data analysis and community relations. She also develops and implements community-building and engagement plans and organizes health equity, food access, and racial equity events. She recently founded Werkville, an early career development hub for Black professionals. She is also an adjunct instructor of ESL at Roanoke Chowan Community College. In her free time, she can be found looking for the next romantic comedy or traveling solo."
