We all dream about moving to a foreign country and sitting in a cafe somewhere just people watching the day away as we sip on our drink of choice at a local hotspot. However, when we start to think about actually uprooting our lives, finding a job, getting a visa, looking for an apartment, etc., we start to realize how hard it would be.

However, this new study may help motivate you to push through all the red tape. New research published in Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes found that moving abroad helps enhance your self-discerning traits. In other words, Eat, Pray, Love was totally accurate. Moving far away helps you find yourself.

Basically, because you are in a new place you have to figure out a lot about yourself including what you do and do not want. According to Swirled, to deduce this the researchers used a self-concept clarity scale. Another plus is that this newly found self-clarity will help you approach your career with a clearer mind.

Now the study found that you also get some benefits when you just travel but to get the full “know myself” impact, you need to move to the foreign country.
