Robin Thede Inks Overall Deal With Warner Bros. TV
Success never stops coming for Robin Thede.
The Emmy-nominated creator, executive producer, and actress has signed a multi-year overall deal with Warner Brothers Television Group. According to Deadline, Thede will develop new content for streaming outlets, premium and basic cable, and broadcast networks.
Thede created, stars in, and also serves as showrunner and executive producer for the acclaimed HBO comedy series “A Black Lady Sketch Show.” The show is currently up for three Emmy Awards, including best variety sketch series. It was also renewed for a second season in August of 2019. Executive produced by Thede and Issa Rae, the show is groundbreaking as it stars and is written solely by Black women. A Black Lady Sketch Show brings the humor to culturally relevant themes such as social norms, anxiety, religion, sex, dating and relationships.

In addition to the sophomore run of her HBO show, Thede is currently developing the feature Fashionably Black for HBO Max and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society banner.
In a recent interview with Variety, Thede exclaimed, “When I was creating ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show,’ I wanted to make a narrative sketch series where Black women could live grounded experiences in a magical reality. So for us it was a playground where we could create these sketches, and live these three-dimensional characters, and tell these stories that could recur throughout the season and throughout the series.”
Prior to HBO, Thede was the creator, executive producer, showrunner, writer, and star of the late-night talk show “The Rundown with Robin Thede” on BET. She also served as head writer for the 2016 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner and the head writer and correspondent for Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.”
