Success doesn’t always follow a straight path, and for Regina Lawless, it took unimaginable loss to spark a powerful transformation. After the sudden passing of her husband, Regina stepped away from a decades-long career, including her role as Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Meta’s Family of Apps, to focus on healing. In doing so, she redefined success on her own terms, embracing entrepreneurship and wellness as a means of restoring balance and purpose.

Now, as the author of Do You: A Journey of Success, Loss, and Learning to Live a More MeaningFULL Life and founder of Bossy & Blissful, Regina is helping other high-achieving Black women embrace healing alongside ambition.

Her Agenda spoke with Regina about her daily routines and rituals, offering a glimpse into the daily practices that contribute to her success.

Her Agenda: What does your morning routine look like, and how does it set the tone for your day?

Regina Lawless: I spend one to two hours in solitude each morning preparing my energy and focus for the day. I typically start with yoga and then end with meditation. This routine allows me to tune in to myself first (before checking emails and social media) and ground my energy, while setting a clear intention for the day.

Her Agenda: What’s one non-negotiable habit or ritual that has had the biggest impact on your success?

Regina Lawless: Regular meditation has improved my overall wellbeing more than any other practice. It has decreased my stress levels and improved my clarity and prioritization during my workday.

Her Agenda: How do you stay focused and productive while balancing multiple responsibilities?

Regina Lawless: I prioritize fun! I used to spend so much time worrying about work and other responsibilities that I often forgot or didn’t make enough time to do the things that bring me joy. Now I make room for joy everyday, whether that is listening to music, a favorite podcast or a great cup of coffee.

Her Agenda: What’s a challenge you’ve faced in your journey, and how did your routines or mindset help you overcome it?

Regina Lawless: My last six months in my corporate role was highly stressful due to rounds of layoffs and shrinking department budgets. Instead of overworking like I would have done in the past, I maintained my mindset of taking care of myself and my mental, physical and spiritual needs like making time for yoga regularly and enjoying my weekends without working. This resulted in me having more energy and clarity when I was working, resulting in my best performance review ever.

Her Agenda: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received that has shaped how you approach your goals?

Regina Lawless: Have a clear and vibrant vision of the outcome you desire and then set S.M.A.R.T. goals based on that vision. S.M.A.R.T. is a goal-setting acronym that stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound.

Her Agenda: How do you handle the emotional load of being in a high-impact position while balancing your personal life?

Regina Lawless: Enjoy your personal life to the fullest! By finding joy and fulfillment outside of work it helps you to offset or balance the stress that comes with high pressure roles.
