Last-Minute Safe Halloween Activities That Are Actually Fun
Halloween can be an exciting time to dress up and have fun with family and friends. It can also provide an opportunity for danger, including car accidents ending with walking trick-or-treaters fatally injured, hospital visits due to food allergies, and fires from accidents involving decor and highly flammable costumes.
Safety is a major concern for not only children but adults as well when enjoying the festivities. Here are a few safe alternatives that will allow you to celebrate and have fun:
Host An At-Home Candy Scavenger Hunt
Think of the most epic Easter egg hunt, but with candy, and indoors because it’s cold (in some states). Make the scavenger hunt interesting by hiding candy in pots on the stove, in the microwave, and between pillows on the couch. If you really want to make things spooky, you can get dry ice and create smoke that can come out of pots or carved pumpkins to create a nice Halloween flair.
Make Creative Costumes
That’s right, it’s a free-for-all and you have to use your thinking cap. With only household items, you have to create the best costume possible. We’re talking bed sheets, colored construction paper, yarn, tape, glue, paint, boxes, and anything else you can get your hands on. Let the possibilities be limitless and you could have a fashion show or a costume contest and pick a winner!
Host A Cookie Decorating Contest
This is the ultimate kid-friendly activity, but if you’re a millennial and having a party with friends, this can also be your chance to show off your artistic skills. You can pick a variety of cookies to decorate, or keep it simple with sugar cookies. Lay out a variety of icing and let the fun begin! The most gory, disgusting, terrifying cookie takes the cake! But who’s eating them afterward?
Bob For Oranges Decorated As Pumpkins
Bobbing for apples is so 80s, we’re going to decorate oranges that look like pumpkins and eat them afterward. Mandarin oranges are a staple in my house and are undeniably delicious. All you need is a knife to cut a square in the center of the orange and something green to fill the space to resemble the stem of the pumpkin. You can cut a ¼ wedge slice of cucumber, pickle, pear, celery, or zucchini.
Add Glow-In-The-Dark Elements
Make your Halloween a hit by ending the festivities with a glow-in-the-dark party. All you have to do is go to your local dollar store and purchase glow-in-the-dark necklaces, bracelets, sticks, lanyards, and rubber bouncy balls. Let everyone decorate themselves with their favorite glow accessories, turn the lights off, and turn the music up! My family and I have made this a tradition on vacations the night before the end of the trip, and it’s never-ending fun memories. Give it a try!
