For a musician of Beyonce’s status, dropping a surprise album in the middle of the night isn’t an easy feat, especially with tracks as explosive as the eponymous album’s hits. In the face of  news coverage and every #beyoncethinkpiece, Beyonce has released a series of YouTube videos explaining her work and vision for her fifth solo album. “‘Self-Titled’ Part 2. Imperfection”, focuses most on her journey to success and feminism, and the failures and sacrifices she had to embrace to sit atop the throne she now occupies, with over a million records sold in one week.

“My message in this album,” Bey explains, “was finding the beauty of imperfection.” It seems that imperfection has given Beyonce her greatest gifts, opportunities to grow and persevere and seek meaning and success in other roles and capacities.

Take a look at Beyonce explaining the inspiration behind the symbolism of the trophies “Pretty Hurts”, her Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie influence, and how she personally defines her own success now in “‘Self-Titled’ Part 2. Imperfection”.
