At the Democratic National Convention last night in Philadelphia, Michelle Obama once again stole the show, leaving the audience and viewers everywhere filled with admiration and gratitude for the words she shared.

So much so, viewers were quick to craft #FLOTUSforPOTUS – a true symbol of exactly how impactful Michelle Obama has been as our FLOTUS for the past eight years.
Despite standing before an audience of split feelings, combative energy, and stress, FLOTUS stole the crowd simply by being her truest, most compassionate self.
She was successful in reminding us all what was most at stake, as well as reinforcing the values we could all agree upon – safety, equality, progress, morality, and a President who would be fit to be a role model to children everywhere.
In part, Michelle’s run as First Lady has remained so remarkable due to her ability to consistently lead with grace – never with judgement, anger, name calling, or ill advised actions to create more press. She channeled this same energy in her speech, mounting herself high above speakers from both the DNC and RNC with unnoticeable effort.
Her points were made clearly and passionately without even needing to mention names. “That is what Barack [Obama] and I think about every day as we try to guide and protect our girls from the challenges of this unusual life in the spotlight…How we explain that once someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level. No, our motto is, ‘when they go low, we go high.’ With every word we utter, with every action we take, we know our kids are watching us.”

Not only did Michelle convey her passion while dignified at all times, she also expressed exactly what was on all of our minds. “I want someone with the proven strength to persevere, someone who knows this job and takes it seriously,” she shared. “Someone who understands that the issues a president faces are not Black and White and cannot be boiled down to 140 characters. Because when you have the nuclear codes at your fingertips and the military in your command, you can’t make snap decisions. You can’t have a thin skin or tendency to lash out. You need to be steady and measured and well informed.” Regardless of how transparently her message took aim, her points were necessary and crucial among the current political climate. A message that hoped for a leader who walked into gray areas with open arms ready to listen, dismantle hate, and work through conflict for the betterment of our country.

Her words painted a picture of precisely how Barack Obama’s presidency has shaped America, and with that, how Hillary Clinton’s mark in history can do the same.
“The story that has brought me to this stage tonight. The story of generations of people who felt the lash of bondage, the shame of servitude, the sting of segregation, but who kept on striving and hoping and doing what needed to be done so that today, I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves. And I watch my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent, Black young women, playing with their dogs on the White House lawn. And because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.”
