Day in day out working for someone else’s dream can take its toll on you mentally and physically. After speaking to Gareth Bull (a 25 year old entrepreneur & co-founder of Email Octopus) there are many perks to being your own boss however; it can be difficult too. By being your own boss you are in complete control of your own future and any achievements however you are also completely responsible for any failures, challenges or issues you may face. These feats can make you feel invincible and on top of the world or it could be that your problems keep you up at all hours of the night!

Remember these words ‘With great power comes great responsibility’ and yes that is a quote from Spiderman but when you decide to take the leap and become your own boss you are now a person with great power who will also have so many more responsibilities. Companies such as Bulldog digital media have experienced astronomical growth since they started in 2014. This is due to their unique and fresh strategies, which has catapulted them to success.

If you are ready to leave your 9 to 5 life behind and become your own boss then here are 3 tips for you.

1. Time management

Now you have made the decision to transition from the traditional 9 to 5, being your own boss will mean you are going to have a lot more free time on your hands. It is crucial you utilize your free time, your energy and focus that into your business and creative ideas. For example, if you get your best ideas from sitting in your office all day then that is what works for you. If you need to get out for a run to get your best ideas then get out there and start running. Finding what works for you to get those creative and business ideas flowing is vital, as it will help you to delegate your time. Having this mindset will save you from wasting your precious time and keep you coming up with new, fresh ideas that will, in turn, help you and your business prosper.

2. Learning from your setbacks

While you may have great feats in your business you’re likely going to have quite a few setbacks on your road to success. Perhaps before you became your own boss setbacks did not mean as much to you. However, now that you are your own boss they are a great way to keep you learning and evolving. In fact, setbacks are a great learning curve and often you will learn more from your mistakes than from your feats. So not letting a disappointing outcome shatter you will be hard to learn at first but when you look back and review the situation you’ll soon learn there are many lessons you can take away from the experience. Learn to become empowered from your setbacks and the rewards will come.

3. Encourage growth

As a boss, you are not only expected to grow your company fiscally and culturally but also you now have the opportunity to grow your business by cultivating the growth of your staff. By encouraging growth in your own company and empowering your staff you will build good foundations which will go on to help you in the long run. A great example would be bulldog digital media who have experienced exponential growth in their short successful run. Find the right staff will help you to grow and they may even teach you a thing or two that you never knew!

So what are you waiting for! 2017 is the perfect time to quit that monotonous 9 to 5 and venture into the world of entrepreneurship.
