Customers are becoming more shopping savvy than ever before. Much of this is because of the popularity of online shopping where customers have more time to browse. However, from a business point of view, this makes knowing what your customers want harder. Here is how to understand what your customers want without being scrutinised for collecting data.

Use your website data.

If you have a website for your business, then this will already give you a mountain of information about your customer’s shopping habits.

You can see which products they look at the most, and which are bought. You can also see how well your website works by checking how long visitors stay on your site before leaving.

If you are not running a website, or you don’t update it regularly, then you are missing a golden opportunity to get valuable data.

Seek help from other companies.

Trying to find the data you need can be difficult. If you are unable to find what you need, then there are companies that can help you.

Companies that offer customer loyalty solutions are geared to finding what your customers need and helping you give it to them.

This could mean starting a loyalty program that can collect customer data and help to identify loyal customers.

Analyze your competitors.

Sometimes the best way to see what your customers want is to see what your competitors are doing. This can be especially helpful if you are finding your company isn’t growing as fast as others.

Studying social media feeds and speaking to customers can give you a good idea about what other companies are offering.

You can also check out their website and see if they are providing products or services that you are not.

As an example, if your competitor is offering free shipping and you are not, then this might be enough for a customer to choose them over you.

Run polls on social media or your website.

Polls are a great way to find out quickly what your customer’s opinion is on a certain topic. They don’t have to be detailed, and it is probably better if they aren’t.

Short, quick questions are a good idea with 3 or 4 options to choose from. You can also ask them to expand on their answer in the comments.

Start a Facebook or Discord group.

There are now many ways that companies can chat with their customers. Using something like a Facebook Group or Discord can allow you to ask questions and get quick answers.

This can be a good feature to add to your loyalty program so anyone who is a member can get access to it. This will also help to keep the chat focused on customers.

Final Thoughts

Collecting data and opinions from your customer is easier now than it has ever been. You just need to be aware of what you are asking and make sure any data you collect is kept safely. With these tips, you can find out what your customers need, and improve your business.
