From the food we eat to the clothes we wear, everything holds deeper meaning. Today’s consumers are increasingly drawn to brands that go beyond the surface — brands that stand for something, tell a story, and reflect personal values.

Consumers today are more thoughtful with their purchases and are looking to change the world even with minuscule decisions.

Her Agenda has compiled a list of brands driven by specific missions that cater to women and how we can support them.

Mayamiko

Mayamiko is a lifestyle brand that centers women, ethics, and sustainability. Borne out of a charity, they produce clothing and accessories made by women in Malawi that fuse modern design with traditional African techniques.

The charity Mayamiko Trust provides opportunities the disadvantaged women in Malawi by nurturing their creative talents, equipping them with transferable skills and business acumen. They are trained in tailoring and are then employed to work with Mayamiko the label, which provides them with stable employment and good wages. Each purchase contributes to this foundation.

Their brand emphasizes being environmentally friendly, which means you can feel good about using their products as their production has harmed no animal or the planet.

FreeFrom

The team — proudly queer, feminist, and people of color-led — is made up of survivors, which has helped build an ecosystem of support.

With a focus on data collection, storytelling, and research, the brand aims to shift the narrative from “crisis response” to one of systemic change. Currently they have disbursed over $5 million to survivors across the U.S. to support their immediate safety and sustainability, built a growing social enterprise that employs all survivors and sells products made by survivor entrepreneurs, created accessible resources to meet survivors’ needs, including their Compensation Compass, which supports survivors in accessing the financial support they need to recoup the costs of abuse, and established spaces where survivors can learn from each other and innovate together, including our My Next Steps peer support groups and a global network of survivor-led, grassroots organizations innovating solutions to support survivors’ economic security.

This ethos spreads to their work culture as well. FreeForm provides unlimited menstrual leave, unlimited paid vacation and stipend, and gender-based violence paid and protected leave.
