Summer is here, and according to reports, there has been an “unrelenting string of heat waves” across the U.S., with record high temperatures this summer. Major cities like Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and New York have had record-breaking heat alerts .

While this is the season of fun, the joys of warmer weather also bring challenges of staying cool and protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Here are some of the best ways to remain comfortable and sunburn-free:

Throw on a cover-up.

Covering your skin is one of the best ways to shield yourself from harmful UV rays while staying comfy and fashionable. Choose lightweight, breathable items, such as long-sleeved shirts, wide-brimmed hats and loose-fitting pants, to allow for better airflow. My favorite beach cover-up is a white button-down shirt. It’s cool and flowy, plus it’s easy to style as it matches almost everything in my closet.

Focus on selecting pieces with flattering cuts, vibrant colors and trendy patterns that reflect your style. Remember to protect your eyes, as UV rays can cause cancer and damage. Wear trendy sunglasses with UV protection, hats and sandals to elevate your overall look.

Wear makeup with SPF.

SPF is essential whenever you step outside — even briefly — as UV rays can cause skin damage in as little as 15 minutes of sun exposure. Wearing foundation with SPF is an excellent way to protect your skin while maintaining that polished look. Products with an SPF of at least 30 shield you from UV rays, reducing the risk of sun damage and premature aging.

I love using tinted sunscreen or BB cream, as they’re lightweight and comfortable in hot weather. These products offer the added benefits of evening out my skin tone while making me feel put together.

Use a parasol.

If you’ve binge-watched “Bridgerton,” you’ll be familiar with this charming and elegant accessory. Parasols are fantastic for sunny days. They block UV rays and offer portable shade wherever you go. Choose one with a reflective coating on the outside to keep you even cooler. Search for options with bright, summery colors that complement your favorite outfits. Whether you’re strolling through a park or attending an outdoor event at an elegant resort, a parasol is the perfect accessory to help you channel the grace and sophistication of the Regency Era.

Carry a pocket-sized fan.

Carrying a mini fan is a convenient and stylish way to beat the heat on hot days. This compact accessory fits easily into your bag or pocket, making it ideal for travel and daily use. With a quick flick, you can enjoy a refreshing breeze anytime, whether on a crowded subway or waiting in line. It’s a practical way to stay cool and composed no matter where you are.

Invest in a cute bag for your water bottle.

Bags for your water bottle are super trendy right now. Investing in a stylish carrier is a fantastic way to be functional and fashionable. A well-designed bag keeps your drink insulated and secure but also adds a touch of personality. You could also personalize it with your initials or decorate it with charms and badges to make it more unique.

Protect your scalp

A sunburned scalp can be painful, and flaking skin can make your hair care routine a hassle. Powder sunscreen is a game-changer for protecting your head from sunburn. This innovative product is easy to apply and offers a convenient, mess-free way to shield your scalp from harmful UV rays.

My favorite part of using this product is that its lightweight, quick-dry formula blends seamlessly into my hair and absorbs excess oil. It’s especially helpful if you plan on wearing your hair in a middle part or slicked-back style.

Try a cooling towel

Cooling towels are designed to stay cool for hours when wet. Simply soak the towel in water, wring it out, and drape it around your neck or over your shoulders. As the water evaporates, it creates a cooling effect that lowers your body temperature. You can also place an ice pack or cooling towel on the soles of your feet, wrists, ankles, behind the knees and around your elbows, as these areas regulate body temperature and prevent overheating.

Beat The Heat In Style

Staying cool and protecting your skin from the sun doesn’t have to be challenging. Use these tips to enjoy all the warmth offers while keeping your skin safe and your body comfortable. Embrace the season confidently, knowing you’re well-prepared to beat the heat in style.
